Before

STEP 1: Cut your tree slices to size (approximately ½” thick is a good size).

Note #1: If using a mitre saw, be sure your piece is properly clamped down and secured to prevent serious injury.

Note #2: Ideally, tree slices should be cut from wood that has had time to dry out. Freshly cut wood can be used, but will likely result in your coasters cracking and/or warping over time as the wood naturally dries out.

STEP 2: Sand first with 80-grit and then again with 120-grit sandpaper. Be sure to round over any sharp edges.

STEP 3: Brush a coat of Varathane Bar and Table Finish Epoxy on the bottom side of your coasters and allow it to cure.

STEP 4: Once cured, tape off the bottom of your coasters with painter’s tape. This will allow you to easily peel off the drips after flood coating the top of your coasters.

STEP 5: Lay down some plastic sheeting or cardboard and place your coasters slightly elevated to allow for the epoxy to flow off.

STEP 6: Pour a flood coat of Varathane Bar and Table Finish Epoxy over the top of each coaster. Be sure to pour enough so that the coaster is completely covered and your epoxy flows over the edges.

STEP 7: Use low heat to pop any air bubbles that may form after pouring.

STEP 8: Once cured, peel off painter’s tape.

STEP 9: Allow coasters to set for 48 hours before first use.
