I am constantly on the lookout for treasures to add to my potting shed. I saw these vintage metal sconces in my favourite antique store, and knew that they would be perfect for the outside, with just a little updating with some spray paint!
- Wipe down the entire piece with a cloth to remove any dust and remove the metal bows with wire cutters. Cover everything with painter’s tape, except the flowers and their stems.
- Spray the back of the piece first with Universal Pearl Metallic spray paint in Champagne Pink and wait 30 minutes for it to dry to the touch.
- Once the back has dried, turn the piece over and spray the front of the flowers. Let dry for an hour. (I loved the paint detail already on the flowers, so I lightly sprayed so that some of the yellow and the stems would still stand out. This gave them such nice dimension.)

- Cover the entire top half of the sconce with a plastic bag and secure with painter’s tape. Then remove the painter’s tape from the candle holders.
- For the candle holders, spray the back first with Painter’s Touch in Satin Black, wait 30 minutes, flip the piece over and spray the front.
- Two hours later, remove the plastic bag and the remaining painter’s tape.
I was thrilled how it turned out! To complete the transformation, I added some solar lights to the sconces – and they are perfect!
