Lights No Spray

Before

String lights can really add ambiance to any outdoor space. Take ordinary lights to another level by spray painting them with Rust-Oleum Universal. Match them to your wedding décor, baby shower, graduation or any other fun celebration simply with spray paint.

  1. Before you start, lay down a drop cloth so paint doesn't get on anything else. Remove the bulbs and place them in a safe spot away from your painting area.
  2. Lay the string lights flat on the drop cloth so they don't touch each other and use painter's tape to protect any part you don't want to paint. It's a great idea to protect the inside of the bulb socket.
  3. You'll want to shake the can of spray paint for about 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle so the paint is well mixed.
  4. Start painting! Spray the paint in very light coats about 10" from the surface of the light string and in slow, steady motions.
  5. Once your strings have the coverage you want, let them dry for at least 30 minutes and then flip them over to paint the other side the same way.
  6. After your last coat of paint has been applied, let the light strings dry for at least 1 hour before adding bulbs and hanging them in your favorite spot.
